With the Responsive Innovation Approach, the first step is the Define the Situation for which innovation may be a solution. This is almost a problem solving approach in that you are trying to address a specific issue and using innovation as the solution finding tool. As with all problem solving processes, the first step usually involves clarifying and defining the problem clearly, which makes it easier to understand and hopefully solve.
Many organizations have unique methods for defining a situation and sharing it with interested parties. So this section will not attempt to teach you how to define the situation, but rather just that you do it in a way that can be shared with others and allow them to generate ideas that target the specific situation. Then you can move on to the collection step.
The next step we are going to discuss is Filtration which is one of the most critical steps in all three approaches.
